Athletics Legend Bob Lacey Passes Away at 72

Former MLB pitcher Bob Lacey, who led the American League in appearances in 1978, has died at the age of 72. Lacey played for the Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, California Angels, and San Francisco Giants across his seven seasons in the majors. His best season came in 1978 with the Athletics when he finished 8-9 with a 3.01 ERA. He recorded 60 strikeouts in 119 2/3 innings pitched and appeared in 74 games that year. Lacey played in Oakland from 1977 to 1980, appearing in 227 games during that time. He was then traded to the Indians in 1981. Lacey appeared in 14 games with Cleveland and one game with the Rangers that season, allowing 19 earned runs in 22 1/3 innings pitched. Lacey did not pitch in Major League Baseball in 1982, before pitching for the Angels in 1983 and Giants in 1984. For his career, Lacey was 20-29 with a 3.67 ERA. He started only two of the 284 career games he appeared in. Baseball writer Rocco Constantino said, 'Really sad to hear of Bob Lacey's passing. He was easily one of the most interesting & nicest players I've interviewed.'
